Miller & Wilson's Theater of Marvels and
Eden Rising present The Two Paths.
In the sixth century, Buddhist monks and Taoist shamans had a contest for the right to convert Korea to their faith.
The Buddhists won by climbing a Ladder of Swords. Today, fifteen centuries later, the way of the Tao coexists with the other major religions in Asia:
Buddhism, Confucianism, Shinto, Christianity and Islam.
On May 19, 2006, Dr. Wilson honored the memory of the events of the sixth century by presenting The Two Paths. In recognition of Buddhist practice,
he climbed the Ladder of Swords, his bare feet pressing down on the razor-sharp steel. To honor the way of the Tao, he showed a scroll bearing hexagrams
from the
I Ching.
Dr. Wilson displayed a second scroll bearing hexagrams from the
I Ching. The hexagrams had been cast over the past several weeks,
focusing on a date early in June. Beneath the hexagrams was a message. Witnesses signed the scroll, which was then cut in two. The bottom portion
bearing the message has been placed on public display. The top portion bearing the hexagrams was sealed in a mailing tube, signed across the sealing
tape by witnesses, then additionally sealed with sealing wax and a seal of unique design.
The
two parts of the scroll were rejoined on June 7 at 4:00 pm at
Eden Rising. Please see the story of
The Two Paths - The Revealing.
